Kuroko no Basuke Wiki

We're No Longer... is the two hundred and twenty second chapter of the Kuroko no Basuke manga.

Summary[]

The only ones who noticed the change in Akashi were the Generation of Miracles. Everyone else wouldn’t give it much thought. Midorima had noticed it earlier, but he was unable to talk to anyone about it.

Akashi goes to the head coach’s office to speak with him. He questions Akashi about the new practice regulations he has made for the Generation of Miracles. Akashi responds that since the head coach dealt with Aomine in a similar way, he just followed suit. Akashi declares that team play actually restricts their team. Since Teiko prioritizes winning over everything, this is the best option. The head coach is shocked by Akashi’s words.

Watching the Generation of Miracles play in an official game, the head coach acknowledges their strength; everyone is playing individually to score as many points as possible. Akashi is leading them as a dictator. However, he wonders if this can really be called a “team”.

Murasakibara and Aomine continue to skip practice, angering Midorima. Momoi speaks to Aomine while he’s lying on his favorite spot on the roof. She asks him if he’s skipping practice again. He replies that it’s no problem since he is performing well. Momoi then softly asks him what he thinks of Akashi now.

Meanwhile, Kise and Midorima talk together in the gym during practice. Kise states that the atmosphere has really changed lately. The feeling of camaraderie has completely disappeared. Furthermore, Midorima is usually always with a bad temper.

Momoi continues talking to Aomine; she feels that something strange is going on with Akashi. Aomine answers that nobody said they had to be sociable while playing. As long as they keep winning, everything is fine. Simultaneously, Midorima states he completely disagrees with what Aomine and Murasakibara are doing. He angrily adds that he can’t get along with people who are performing less than satisfactory. Kise doesn’t respond.

Just before the school closes for the night, Akashi comes to see Kuroko. He states it’s unusual to see Kuroko practicing free throws. Kuroko then asks Akashi if he enjoys playing basketball. He adds he feels that the team has changed because Akashi changed. Akashi retorts that he hasn’t changed at all. There were always two of him; his other self merely swapped places with his current self. Since the team changed, this self unleashed. Finally, teamwork is no longer necessary. Kuroko himself can understand this because, as a “shadow”, he can no longer support an increasingly powerful “light” (Aomine).

Elsewhere, Kise thinks to himself that he’s hearing the wind again; this means that he’s becoming disinterested in his activities. He suddenly gets a phone call about a photo shoot and tells them he’ll think about it.
